Finding, Teaching, Preaching…

BOSS5240I am crunched for time this week So I am going to give you a quick summary of what happened. I feel like I never have enough time for this!

So last Monday we went to a place called ” Bow Fight” which was way awesome! It is like an Airsoft or Paintball came except with bows and fake arrows! It felt like Lord of The Rings or something. We divided into 2 teams and started battling each other. Our team dominated! We won 6 out of 7 rounds. I will let the pictures and videos speak for themselves on my performance. SO Monday was awesome and we ate pizza at the house of a sweet member and she introduced us to a friend who is also interested.

Tuesday we had meetings, led by me, and discussed how we are going to make the English BOSS5320class better. We have so many students that we divide into 3 classes. After that we got ice cream and just went inviting. We ran into tons of people who only speak Burmese so we had a hard time finding anyone who could understand us. Eventually we made our way back to the church and taught an awesome English class with tons of people.

Wednesday we just walked all the way down to a mall that is like 8 kilos away. None of our people were free, and we had nothing to do. We met lots of interesting characters along the way, and got rained on super hard. we were soaking all day. We later rolled into Book of Mormon class dripping water and smelling like a stagnant lake.

BOSS5333On Thursday we went to the hospital to get an ingrown toe nail checked out. It was a super long taxi ride there, and a super long wait to see a doctor. They finally saw me and said that my own efforts at first aid and ghetto “in the shower” surgery had removed the offending nail so they did not do anything about it. They just gave me some antibiotics to use with the antibiotics I had already had for a modest price of… really expensive. So we just went home afterwords, planned, and had a Ward Correlation meeting because our whole day got spent at the hospital.

On Friday we had a day of finding LA people and making maps to their houses by using google maps. We also had an awesome sports day where we dominated at soccer. I was goalie because I did not want to wreck my foot, but that didn’t stop me from sometimes forgetting and bashing my bad toe in on the ball. I also interviewed an investigator of the sisters for baptism.

On Saturday we had appointments with people that fell through, but we also had some that showed up. We invited and visited people all day, until the baptism of brother Mai. It was a good service, but he forgot to plug his nose so he kinda freaked out under water. after that we called all of our investigators and got a good amount of people who said they BOSS4975were going to church.

On Sunday we had an awesome day of teaching and preaching at the church. We had 2 new people show up that we had invited, so we taught them and they are pretty solid. We also did some baptismal records and stuff and sorted things out. After that we visited a member at his house, went home, and I made pasta for myself.

Today we do not have much planned, so we are just going to go get a haircut and go shopping at the mall MBK. The one with Escape Room in it. So nothing too exciting this week, but I only have 8 more weeks left until I have to “get a life” haha. See yah later!

Transfered to Bankhae

BOSS4872

So this was a good week. Sorry I did not send a blog last week. Lots of stuff happened and there was not enough time!

BOSS5137SO last week I got moved to Bankhae, an area out in Bangkok East. It is close to Bangbuatong, one of my old areas. It has an amazing church, and an awesome ward. I got moved here with Elder Woodberry, a half Thai dude who loves running and parkour. Last week we got moved here and spent our time getting to know the area and the members. We gave our testimonies at the first sacrament meeting, and we think the members like us.

Last Monday we went to Asoke and played laser tag with a lot of members and missionaries. It was loads of fun! I Gopro-ed the whole thing. I got 9nth out of 32 people, so not that bad. After that was over we ate subway, road a boat through the city, and got a sock from the mission office that I had left in Nongkhai. So that’s a lose end tied up. After that we came home and had an awesome FHE with members at the church.

On Tuesday we taught some people and went searching for LAs around the city. We rode buses and stuff all over in the hot sun. After that we had a meeting at the church and taught some people. we also had an awesome English class. We had like 40 people show up, and we got it going way professionally to bring people back..

On Wednesday we went around the town looking for people again, and ate lunch with Kenny at the mall. After getting lost in there, finally finding him, and eating, we left the place and went looking for LAs that were very close by. We find houses no problem, but the people are never home! So we just went inviting for a long time. We had a Book of Mormon class at the church where we helped everyone make scripture cases.

On Thursday I was at Asoke all day because we had the last meeting with president. You have this meeting with president when you are about to go ho,e/ I took lots of notes because we talked about things like finances, families, and the future. We ate subway after and I got to catch up with all my friends. I cannot believe we are all going home soon. After that we took a long journey back to the house and finished our studies and planning. After that we had correlation meeting with the WArd Mission Leader.

On Friday we went to Thonburi because we had a zone training. I learned that I would have to get new glasses because you cant just store them on your head now. So we had an awesome meeting there, then came home. After that we went to the church in our own area and taught some people at the church. We had sports night and we played soccer in the rain. It was pretty intense.

On Saturday we went on a switch off all day and just invited and hunted for La people .We explored tons of sketchy places and we saw lots of scary people. Not much really happened. But we did find an LA who has been gone for like 15 years. We had an awesome lesson with him.]

On Sunday we went to church and had lots of people there. It was a good time at the church, and we had a fat cat roam inside that I had to get out. We then went LA hunting and ate at the house of a member named Git, who helps us teach a lot.

Today we are going to a place where you divided into teams and fight each other with fake bows and arrows. It is gonna be awesome! I will video tape the whole thing and take lots of photos. This week we are gonna invite way more so that we get lots of new investigators. Love you guys!

Good Times In Thailand

Hello Family.

This week was more of a slow one, and we have transfers coming up. I am pretty sure I will stay. But you can never be sure where the Lord will send you next.

On Monday we just emailed for a long time because there was lots of stuff we need to getBOSS4570
caught up on. We also made custom stamps! But I forgot to attach photos of them. I just made some logos and phrases. We also got some more food for the house and had FHE on our roof again. We had several members and investigators come, and even got a referral out of it.

On Tuesday we had our district meeting and ate ice cream with everyone. After that we invited and had lots of other little things to do, that were spaced very far apart. We called a lady referred to us by the sisters in Udon, and we were able to get an appointment set up with her. After that we had a very successful English class, and got more people this week than last week!

BOSS4623On Wednesday we spent a lot of time getting to a place called Mega Bangna, a huge mall. We got there early to meet with the referral lady, so we just looked around the place. I found another Toys R Us here in Thailand. we then met with the lady, named “O” and she bought us lunch. We had an awesome lesson with her, and got her to commit to coming on Sunday. After that we went to visit some LA people, and invited more dudes.BOSS4621

Thursday we planned, had a Ward Correlation meeting, and planned some more. After that we just invited and had Book of Mormon class. Not much happened

On Friday we walked around town and visited a member at her restaurant, and sheared a lesson with her. After that we want looking for the apartment of Sister Panda, the older sister of Sister Sun in Buriram, the one me and Lodwick baptized almost 2 years ago. We were able to find her place after an all day search, and along the way got in contact with an investigator we thought we lost 2 weeks ago. Her phone was just broken, not it is fixed and we can teach her again!

On Saturday we went and taught Sister Panda at her house. I BOSS4612talked to her about her questions and concerns, and mad her feel way better. It was awesome to see her again. I have not seen her for like 2 years, and Sister Sun really wants me to help her. After catching up and teaching hr we left because she had stuff to do. We then came home and ate dinner with a member at a really nice restaurant.

On Sunday it was a good day at church. Lots of people came including O, an La that we just got back, and other investigators, like the local crazy homeless man. Other that that we just had meetings, ate food, and came home to make dinner. We had our “Last Supper” together as a district because transfers is this week.

We are not sure who is leaving or who is staying, but if I had to guess I would say that I am staying. We will see what happens, but it is up to the Lord and our president. Bangna is awesome, and so are it’s members. See yah next week.

My Week in Thailand

DSCF1817

Hello Family,

So this last week was pretty good. I am gonna give a shortened summary of it.

On Monday we really did not do much. We just emailed, did some errands, and sent some custom cut suits home. We also hung out with Brother Best from Rangsit. I had some neckties cut for him in Nongkhai so I had to give them to him and get money for them. After that we had

FHE on the roof but not many people came because It started to rain.

On Tuesday we had our district meeting and I was assigned to be the English Leader. That means I got to get the English class up and running and better. We realized that the English class is a great source of investigators so I have been working on a schedule, assignments, and logistical stuff to get more people coming and coming back. We then got ice cream together and me and Elder Phanich taught , our Chinese investigator. She had some concerns, and we almost lost her. But after a hardcore lesson, we got her to continue learning with us. We then invited and had English class. We had tons of people show up, and with the work I put into it, everything went smoothly. We even got some appointments out of people with it.

On Wednesday we went and taught someone after fixing a problem with an Order we made to the office Elders. We then visited a member at her house and helped with some chores and such since she only has one arm. We had a very good lesson with her, and then we had to go back to our street and teach a girl over at a restaurant. After that we had nothing to do so we just invited around the town.

On Thursday we taught a girl early in the morning near a huge office tower, and we had a run in with a crazy old man who REALLY wants to learn English with us. We had an awesome lesson with Sister Ann then went home to finish our studies and plan for the day. After that we invited our way to the Book of Mormon class and gave our name-tags to a member who is an engineer. He is gonna make metal ones for us, so that we have something cool to take home from our missions.

On Friday we visited more people at their houses as it rained, since no one was going anywhere. Not much was really noteworthy until we went to one member’s house and taught his son. He has not been taught by the missionaries in 6 years, and it was an awesome lesson with him. He really opened up, and made steps to continue getting better. We then went home because it was getting late

On Saturday. We just invited all day, and taught sister Ann again in the middle of a KFC. We then invited around the town before going to a member’s birthday party. At the party i had the opportunity to talk to her mom and get her to be interested in what we teach. We were able to get an appointment out of her! She learned with the missionaries almost 30 years ago, so we are the first ones to teach her in a long time. It was super awesome!

BOSS4537Sunday was good. We had a very good meeting and lots of people came. After it was all over we mingled with the members and taught some of our people lessons. After that we took home an investigator who cannot walk well in a taxi, and then invited around the town. We had dinner on our roof with members. it rained but we just stayed under a gazebo and ate.

Today we really don’t have much planned. We are just gonna chill. things are going good here in Bangna, although slow. This is a harder area, but we are doing the best that we can. see yah next week.

It’s Like Standing on the Surface of the Sun

BOSS4014

Whats up family?

So this week was pretty good. I love this new place called Bangna with all of its crazy city folk, car accidents, and barley breathable pollution levels. It has a certain… charm. I do actually love it here. It is a nice area with good members, and actual church BUILDING, and everything you need from malls to markets.250px-Centralbangna2

Last Monday we went back to the gold old escape room  and did that. We went with Elders from 2 different areas, and brother Kenny because he was going back to America. We met up at the mall MBK and did the escape room again. We did the Mysterious room again. Because I have done all the rooms I just watched, laughed, and gave hints when I thought they were absolutely necessary. We then finished up with the Prison Break one. I actually never beat that one in the past. We ran 1 minute over time. So this time we were able to beat it, and I can truly say I beat all of the rooms. We then ate some subway and did some shopping. After that we just went home and had English class.

BOSS4038On Tuesday we ate lunch as a district and then had our meeting on the roof. After that we went to eat ice cream. It was so hot in the city. I sweat in the shade while standing still! This is some of the hottest I have felt in Thailand. We then went to meet our Chinese investigator Sister Sabrina. She took us to her awesome high-rise apartment and we were able to meet her mom for the first time. Her mom gave us some really good Chinese treats that were made of honey and pumpkins. We tried to give her a baptismal date, but she wouldn’t accept one. It is ok though because we are in no rush. After that we just invited around the town until we slowly made our way to English class. It was a good class, but this is the last day we can use the room because the owners do not pay. taxes. So we are on the hunt for a new one. After that we got food and went home.

On Wednesday we went over to Sabrina’s apartment again to translate as dudes came and fixed her AC. They were really good at what they did, and they fixed it in no time. We were able to teach her a lesson too. In thanks she gave us some peanuts, which my companion is deathly allergic too. So that was funny. We then went and ate food at a restaurant called Sizzler’s for Elder Parish’s 20th birthday. After that we were supposed to teach someone but they were not free. So we went and taught another dude named Chai. He confided all of his problems in us so we tried to help. After some crazy bike riding we went to the English room for our correlation meeting, but the member called us an hour later telling us he couldn’t come. Thanks bro. So we just went home because it was late.BOSS4042

On Thursday we invited and then planned for a while. After that we walked to a dunkin doughnuts to meet with a new investigator named Ann. While we were waiting we went into a store called “The Old Ann” store. Makes me think of my father. Ann eventually showed up and we taught her. She is a young service worker that takes care of old people. We then biked away after the lesson and went to Book of Mormon class. We had a good time, and I got some games going so people did not get bored. After that we just ate dinner with the members.

On Friday we ate lunch with an La and took a member named News with us to go teach someone. We started walking there and happened to run into an La member. We were able to get his number. After that we talked to an ice cream man who was an former investigator and was interested in learning again. As we were talking to him a girl walked up and introduced herself to us. she as Christian and wants to learn too! So lots of stuff was popping off in this one parking lot. Crazy. After that we talked to an LA member and she gave us free food. she had a pet chicken that would sit on her shoulder. Only in Thailand. After that we walked back to the English room to meet with a member. On the way there we ran into an investigator of ours and were able to talk to him. After teaching this member we went home, I bought tins if on-sale reese’s cups, and we went home.

On Saturday we all went and ate at KFC because it was Fast Sunday tomorrow. We ate some good food and talked about human nature and such. As one does. We then biked to the English room and helped members move out the furniture and such. We then stored it at another members’ house. As soon as it was done it started raining very hard, with tons of lightning. Luckily we were close to the house so we hunkered there to drop of the English books. The other Elders showed up and were soaking wet. After the rain died down we went back to brother Chai’s house, and he we had dinner with him. We had another good talk with him, and got a commitment out of him to go to church tomorrow. We then just walked the town and invited all night, running into interesting characters, sketchy karaoke parlors, and homeless goons. We then got some dinner at the mall and went home.BOSS4035

On Sunday we used the BTS sky train to take some of our investigators to church. Church was really good, and lots of people came. We hung out, did a baptismal interview, and helped the members make lunch. After that we just taught people and made the long journey home. Me and my companion made dinner for the night. After cooking was done we took it to the roof and ate with the district and members. I showed some of the members some close combat moves and military stuff. It was super fun! After that we closed with a spiritual thought and came downstairs.

Today we are going to a naval museum to look at boats and such. We are having a chill day so we can get rested from this unbearable heat. I don’t have much time left herein Thailand, but I am happy to spend it in Bangna. See you next week with more stories.

P1080667Hello Family.

This last week was a good one, but there really is not much to write about. This water festival cannot be explained, it has to be experienced.

So on Monday we woke up, and did errands. I bought 2 water guns and some spray paint, and got to work preparing my weapons for the great water war. We tried our hardest to teach people but no one was free due to them going home for the holidays and people were going on vacation. We ate lunch with the Elders from Lao because they came for errands, and then we just tried to invite. We had an FHE activity at the church with a good amount of members, and we played tons of games and made food together.

BOSS3883On Tuesday we had our district meeting and ate ice cream together. There was already weird festival stuff happening in the form of a parade of monks in the middle of the Tesco store. After that me and Cecil biked to a lot of peoples houses to visit them and serve them since all of our investigators are gone and the inviting game was super bad. After hours of that we taught English with a grand total of 2 people, once again, due to the holidays. We just got dinner and went home after that.

P1080709On Wednesday it was the first day of Songran, The water festival. We got up early and went to the church and played with the members. It was super fun with all of us eating food and smacking cars and people with water. After that we roamed around the city for a few hours getting soaked and wrecking fools with water. I took a cooking pot with a handle and it turned out to be the ultimate weapon. After that we just went home because of the 6 pm curfew.

Thursday, the middle day, was the craziest. I was almost kissed by 2 girls, Cecil had a man try and kiss him, and we ended up on a dance stage. Apparently I am the most handsome man in Nongkhai and the city just cannot handle it. Whenever I walk by a group of girls, something my district calls the “Jonas Brothers Effect” happens where they scream and swarm just me. What can I say, I got it from my father. We ended up at a dance stage in the middle of the city and us white guys should everyone how to bust a move. After a few hours of festival fueled dancing we ran home because it was getting dark and the curfew was approaching.

On Friday it was the last day so everyone went hard. We just did our thing and roamed the city. We ended up in the sketchy part of the festival so we had to use our local black man Elder Polu as a shield between us and the lady boys to escape. Inevitably we ended up back at the stage and just went wild again. Lots of videos were taken and lots of laughs had. AT the end of the day we ate dinner with some members by a concert and went home.

P1080715On Saturday we woke up and everyone was super tired. Me and Cecil went and got my bike tire fixed because it had a leak, and then we went and tried to visit people. We were able to meet with some RCs and Sister Yuyi so I could finish her baptismal record. After that we just biked around in the intense heat and suffered. After that I went to an ear doctor because i had tons of water that was forced in my ears and would not come out, so I was a deaf man since the first day of the festival. Luckily it took 15 minutes and some sort of weird ear vacuum to fix the problem, now I can hear too well. I can hear my voice echo in my mouth. all for just 6 dollars. We then went to the church and had game night, and ate dinner with the members.

Sunday we had a good amount of people come to church. Nothing too special happened,P1080753 we just had meetings and things. After that we talked to some members, finished paperwork, and talked to investigators some more. After that we biked to an old woman’s house in some incredible heat. The bike ride took 30 minutes. When we got there she was sleeping and told us to come back next week. So we suffered through the return trip through Hades, or so it felt. We then just visited people and had weekly planning because we had not done it yet. That night our AC gave out so we all had to sleep in the other Elder’s study room. luckily I am prepared and had a mattress pad and enough pillows to survive.

This morning I woke up with a horrible pain in my neck. Luckily it is going away. i fixed the AC by taking it apart and fiddling with it until cold air came out again. Today we are going Ice skating and bowling down in Udon with the missionaries down there and Bro Kenny. We should be finding out if anyone is transferring this week, and all bet are on me that I am leaving, So next week this email might be coming from a different place, see y’all!

-Elder Ridings

BOSS3416Hello Family.

So due to time i will make this one quick. This was a pretty good week we had. The weather was nice and cool, the sun was not too hot, and the mosquitoes died down. We just got back from a mountain adventure that I will explain in a little bit. Last monday was a pretty good P-day where we just got errands done, got hair cut, and then went to a member’s house to go fishing! I got in touch with my inner southern man and managed to catch… nothing. The little girl who lives there caught 3 fish. After being ashamed by a little girl we had dinner. Before dinner I was possessed with the idea of picking up a stick and swinging it around like a quarterstaff. I then decided to swing it at the other Elders, and a sudden stick fight broke out. I wore a motorcycle helmet and made a shield out of a wooden box lid and some rope. We dueled for a long time, and I was able to get some hits on people, and take hits with my shield. The fun ended though before dinner when Elder Cecil took a tree branch straight to the family jewels. We ate dinner after he was able to get up after lying in

the dirt for 15 minutes.
Tuesday was a good day. We taught a lady Tesco and invited after our district meeting. It was a pretty slow day but we managed until English class. We played a telephone game with English phrases and you can guess how that went. Lots of nothing being pronounced right, with the phrase “five flimsy fish” being completely transformed into “battle battle battle battle’ by the end of the telephone line. We then ate steak a member brought.
On Wednesday we had a good day running around and scolding, lovingly, LA people for notBOSS3475 coming to church like they said. I made a lady jump off her motorcycle when I inched a little past a truck that was blocking my line of sight. she was no where near hitting me so her reaction was a little strange. I helped her up and she was fine, not even mad either, or maybe she was just scared. i am still not sure. We taught the institute class because the teacher was not free.
On Thursday we did our weekly planning and found that the refrigerator had given out, and all the stuff that people kept in there had become mush. I only eat white bread in the house, which was entirely unaffected. We ended up going to do service at a member’s house by cleaning his huge dump truck. After that we went almost 2 kilometers down a road under construction to see where it went. It ended up at the house we went fishing at, BOSS3574so we taught the people that live in the house.
Friday was a pretty good day. We had lots of lessons through the day and I ended up buying a pistol holster for my airsoft gun. It is the type that you see cops wear under their suits. It is real leather too. After that we taught an LA who brought a friend who was interested too! That made me happy. We had planned to teach our investigator, Yuyi, who has a baptismal date next week. She actually helped us teach the new girl named Ann. We then had book of Mormon class and went out to eat with Yuyi and some members.
On Saturday we had a fun day of dealing with tons of people who did not show up for our appointments, and a dude from the Udon stake center that needed a translator. He ended up doing it without us and told us AFTER we biked to the super far away mall. We were able to find the LA parents of another LA and teach them a lesson. They are nice, just getting to church is hard because they are old. We then cleaned the church, it was super dirty, and had an awesome game night with the members.

Sunday we had a super low member count for some reason. The lowest I have seen here. That made me really sad! After church we noticed a guy outside whose car had broken down, so we went and pushed it to the gas station for him.I sent you a picture of us pushing his car. We then visited people at their houses, and lost an investigator family because the extended family will not allow us to meet with him anymore. I fought them pretty hard but logical arguments , testimony, and my southern intolerance could not win the day. I was super disappointed. After that we went home for dinner and watched some church movies.

On Monday we woke up at 4 to meet with Kenny and Yuyi for a trip to the mountains.Sent pics of the trip. We met up with the Missionaries in Sagonakon. We hiked up caves, cliffs, and mountains all day. We had to walk up rickety staircases and walkways made of old wood. Me and my companion ran the whole way up the mountain and quickly lost the slower group. The strangest thing happened in that a dog followed us the whole way up, and even led us and waited for us on the trail. At many crossroads he would take the right way and we just followed him to the top, and all the way back down again. It was pretty cool. He is our spirit animal. Today we will be going to FHE and hopefully having a good time with members. Next Sunday is Yuyi’s baptism so prepare for news on that next Monday!
