Ants Raining From Trees

Hello Family!

This was a good week. Lots of more good stuff happened and we also had some crazy things happen almost every day, because this is Thailand.

BOSS2897This Last Monday we had a member try to assassinate the Elders because the food we got from a member yesterday was POISONED, or maybe it was just bad food hahaha. Everyone in the district had food poisoning. We had planned to go to a cave system but everyone was too sick to go. I was the only one immune. We went emailing and we just went home to rest. Everyone got some sleep and recovered. I called all the RCs and had a very good time talking to them. After resting and hanging out at home, we went to the church and had a huge FHE party with all the members and investigators. It was a very good time, we shared a spiritual thought, and then we went home.BOSS2891

On Tuesday we ate food and I saw a naked man running around in an alley way next to me. We made eye contact. What a way to start the day. We then had district meeting at the church, and went out to get ice cream together. We had a fun there, and then invited outside the Tesco for a very long time. While we were at Tesco we ran into a lot of Lao people coming over to Thailand to shop. There is no Tesco or anything over there because it is communist. We then went to and La’s house and we tried to visit some people. On the way there Elder Cecil managed to wreck himself and his bike in the middle of an open, clear road. He was fine so i told him to walk it off. Sadly none of the people we wanted to visit were home, except for an La who tried to run away on her motorcycle. Our bikes were too slow to catch her ! We then went to the church and taught an investigator with an La member that helped us, and actually ended up being a very good teacher in her own right. We then taught English class, played fun games, and talked to some of the new people after words to see if they wanted to learn more with us.BOSS2895

On Wednesday we went and ate at a place we have never gone before, and I immediately started feeling tired and sick. We slowly biked to the water place and paid for the water bill, invited, and then had to run home because I was feeling like crap. I did what I could to make myself feel better. I got good news in the fact that SOME of my neckties that I expected 2 months ago are done. We then went inviting at Tesco and Elder Cecil was able to get some numbers without my help! After inviting we went LA hunting and tried our best to find some new people we have never seen before. We went to the church and taught some RCs before and after the institute class. One of the RCs came in with hair dyed bright fiery orange. Cool hair bro..

On Thursday we studied and weekly planned until we went to an RC house and cut BOSS2877down trees and tamed the jungle. We fought the birds and beasts of the forest, and got assaulted by ants that rained from the trees. We set their nest on fire after that bold attack! At some point a random man came out of the forest and was holding a owl in his hands, that had it him. Where this owl came from, or whose it is I still don’t know. He released it into the woods, and we watched it go. We then visited some LAs at their houses, including some that just happened to not be home at the time we agreed to meet together. funny. After teaching some LAs who were home we went by the La with all the puppies we washed. AS we were talking I asked where the puppies were. She said all 10 of them were dead. I was shocked and asked what happened. She said they died when it was super cold. She bluntly told me she did not bring them inside because they were dirty. I was devastated at the lack of care and concern for them. So after that lesson I went home pretty depressed at the loss of those little guys.

On Friday we met with an investigator in the morning and then went La hunting again, and got stood up by more people. That stinks. We then went home to finish our studies, but got sidetracked by money and house stuff. We then got an emergency referral in the middle of our stuff, so we went over, taught a boss referral lady, and went back home. As we once again tried to finish studies we got a call that a meeting we had was pushed up so we had to cancel studies again and go to it. We then had Book of Mormon class and went out o eat food and go home. Everyone was super tired and exhausted, and lots of appointments fell threw for us and the other Elders.

BOSS2890On Saturday we just invited all day. I had a splitting headache and drank tons of water all day. It was not a good day for me. I had to go to the church and fix the internet for the members because we have a broadcast we are watching tomorrow, and they do not know how to fix it. We then went to a investigators house and taught her family. Cecil almost crashed his bike again. We then went to the church and had tons of people show up for game night, including a cute little puppy. We played a fun game called Murder in The Dark, which involves turning off the lights in the sacrament room. We had lots of people there, including investigators, so everyone had a blast! After it was over we got pizza to go so we can eat it tomorrow, in case that member poisons us again.

On Sunday we had a very good day at church, saw a broadcast with Elder Stevenson. We did not have a ton of members show up, so we broke no attendance records. After that we just visited La people all day, almost got hit by a car, and poor Elder Cecil almost crashed his bike in the middle of a clear road again. After that we went home for dinner, and ate the pizza before the member got there. We were all too scared to eat her food, so we gave it to our neighbors.(shhhhh don’t tell anyone)

Today we are going to an alligator farm to watch people wrestle alligators or something.
It was a good last week member poisoning aside. This week we are planning on a baptism this Sunday, so we really hope everything pulls through! Say a prayer it does.

Love you guys!

Afraid Of A Little Rain

BOSS1982Hello Family!

So lets get this real blog started. It starts on Monday. Monday was a good P-day were we prepared for the train ride to Bangkok by getting my stuff ready, emailing, and getting the Udon people who were also doing visas up here with us. After getting hair cuts, buying more ties, and shopping we went to the bus station to meet the Udon people, and took them to the train station. We barley made it on the train in time because the Udon people were late. We just chilled on the train, ate food, and talked. We got private beds so that was good, but we were all shoved into the foreigner train car and were surrounded by white people. So we went to bed early to get enough sleep for the next day.

On Tuesday we woke up and got off the train in Rangsit, my old area. We took a taxi to the massive government building that I have been to a few times. We got there at 5:17 in the morning and there was NOBODY there at all. We just chilled and waited and got to meet up with all of my old MTC group as they came to. We are renewing our visas for the last time on our missions. It was like a weird flashback of the time we first did it over a year ago when we came in country. I was the 4th one in a line of over 500 people so I got out of there fast., Me, Elder Stone, Hartung, and Batshchi went to the local mall and ate food, and talked about WWII We then went to the Airport and took a very comfortable 45 minute flight back home. I had to send my backpack in the cargo because I forgot I brought a pocket knife. We landed in Udon and took a van back to Nongkhai where we taught English class and members were wondering where i was for a whole day.

On Wednesday we went to the LA with the kid’s house and taught her kid for her. It was a good and very simple lesson. We had a crazy member that moved south call us thinking people are trying to kill him and spraying him with gas. He is from Finland and we are pretty sure he suffers form paranoia. He wants money for a plane ticket before these Tom Cruise Movie Villains kill him. We then roamed around the neighborhood and gave an LA member’s kid 100 baht for his 9th Birthday. He is an investigator now. We then found the house of these 2 random kids that come to church. They live in a super nice house and have a HUGE German Shepherd dog. We met their mom for the first time, and have an appointment to go back. We then went to the church for institute, and on the way out of the neighborhood we ran into the crazy robot man again, and he tried to hug us as we biked by. I thought my companion was about to get tackled so I was ready to boot the crazy guy as I biked by but luckily that didn’t happen. We had a good institute class and we ate at another cheap steak place.

For Thursday we went and helped a member and their family move their furniture from their old house to a new house down the street. We lifted furniture and ferried it back and forth with a friend’s pickup truck. There grandma drove it and she drives scary. They then introduced us to one of their neighbors who is very interested. We had a good suit down lesson with her, and she is coming to church. Her name is Boo. We started biking home to go change our clothes and shower, but we ran by the grandma’s house who has the special education kid. AS we came there she was sawing logs, and was so happy we were there and in service clothes. She has no gas for food, so was going to make a fire, and prayed that someone would help her, so we fulfilled that prayer and helped her out. We then went to the church and watched a missionary broadcast for all the missionaries called “Teach Repentance, Baptized Converts” it was a super good session, and I learned alot. We then taught Ann’s kid again and stopped by some LA’s. We then taught an investigator at her house and went to the church to teach an LA but sadly she did not show up. The Finnish man kept calling because apparently they are poisoning his food now. I asked old Nongkhai missionaries is this was all in his head, and they all agreed he makes this up and is crazy. The Mission Financial Advisor said he cant buy him a plane ticket to Finland. but that he would be more than happy to buy him a gas-mask.

BOSS2182For Friday We taught Poy at her house and had a a very powerful lesson with her. We then went to Boo”s house and taught her a lesson. It was a disaster. She understood nothing, even in the simplest language, and the member does not have her gospel knowledge down either. When I asked her to explain what a prophet we she started off strong by saying me and Elder Christensen were prophets of God. We then told her to just come to church on Sunday. We then went to a member’s house and did a service project. We then went inviting at Tesco and went to the church for Book of Mormon class. We had to purge the church of mosquitoes because I was not gonna take them anymore. When members showed up they complained about the smell of the spray, and didn’t noticed the legions of dead mosquitoes so whatever. We had a good Book of Mormon class taught by me. We ate food at this good place right next to the church and went home.

On Saturday it drizzled and was pretty cold. We ate and went to the church to meet with some guy about the church’s internet. We then went to the tie guy and talked to him about our ties. We had nothing to do so we went inviting in this huge market where we had never been before. There was a cowboy there with bottle cap-spurs playing the guitar for money. We then invited all day and cleaned the church at night and had game night. Bro Ice, the ward mission leader, showed up after his long trip out of Nongkhai. We had a very good game night but members like to team up and take out the white guy (us) first so that’s not too fun. After that we ate food with the members at the river.

BOSS2271On Sunday it was FREEZING. A combination of the river, cold weather, and rain dropped the temperature down. We got to the church and everyone was all bundled up. It was a good day at church and we had lots of LAs there. We got the attendance to 59 today, the highest it has been in a long time. The Zone Leaders were impressed. After church we had tons of meetings and lessons, and then ate lunch with the members at the church. We then went visiting people in the cold, and went to the house of kids with the German Shepherd. They were all inside there nice house on a pallet with their mom, watching the power Puff Girls. We taught them and then got my first footage of the midget on his ATV. After visits the temperature dropped way low and it got dark so we went home. The Finnish man went insane again and says he is being hunted. I told him I am in Nongkhai and am not Tom Cruise, so I cannot help him. I then cleaned the house and made it spotless, and we bundled up and went to bed.

Today the weather is still freezing so we are wrapped up in lots of clothes. It is 57, which is cold for Thailand. No one is really doing anything fun today because it is too cold. See you next week family!

It’s Cold In Thailand…brrr

BOSS2249Hello Family!

So as you know, transfers are here. But with no transfer meeting no one, not even president, quite knows how we are going to do this moving! This last week was more of a slower one due to meetings and such, but I felt good about what I learned and accomplished.

On Monday it was still FREEZING. it was 52 degrees! That may not sound too cold for some, but in a country where you feel like you are melting in the sun and at night, that’s cold. Monday we did not do much for Pday because it was freezing and most places were closed. We just shopped and relaxed at home. The Udon Sisters came up and visited some members here because Sister Grover is going home at the end of this transfer. We went to the tie dude again and he was not done yet. We relaxed until 6. We wrapped up in clothes and biked 30 minutes to a member’s house and had FHE. There were lots of people there, and we played fun games and gave a spiritual thought. On the way home I had to kick a dog that tried to kill us. We rushed home and finished for the night, and hoped it would be warmer the next day.

On Tuesday It was still freezing! We biked to the bus station and took a van to The Udon Stake Center. I ran the district meeting this time. I talked about change and repentance, including a favorite scripture of mine in Moroni 9:5. It was a very powerful meeting, and everyone after said I was a very captivating speaker. One person said I should be a motivational speaker. After the meeting we all went to eat together, and then we went home on a van. When we got home we biked over to Ann, the La’s house. We taught her son who is 9, and wants to be baptized. It is hard to teach small children. We then visited members at the neighborhood, and saw some investigators at their houses. We went to the church for English but it was cold, dark, and raining. We assumed no one would come in these conditions since Thai people are afraid of a light drizzle. Surprisingly we had 4 members show up! Probably because they all came in the same car. After that we went and had dinner with all of them, and biked home in the cold rain.

On Wednesday we had an appointment with an RC. He did not show up though so we ate lunch at a Thai place that had a ton of white guys in it for some reason. After we ate we BOSS2227biked to a solid member’s house and got him to go with us to an investigator’s house. it is the same lady who does not understand things too well. We went very slow and very simply, and it turned out being a good lesson. After we taught her we went inviting at this huge market that we got our tie fabrics. after that we visited an RC at her house, and taught her/moved stuff into a different building. After that we went to Institute class and had 2 of our investigators attend it. President Tiger spoke very clearly and taught very well for them,. They left understanding more about the Gospel. After the institute class we went out to our house, grabbed clothes and a day pack, and went with Tiger to the bus station. Tomorrow is Zone Conference, so we had hotel rooms reserved in Udon for us. We took a van to Udon, and went to McDonald’s first. AS we were eating the Elder’s from Lao rolled in and i got to see Frodsham and nelson, dudes in my group. We all went to the hotel and there were lots of missionaries staying there. We basically had a big party in the hotel, and caught up with all of our old friends. We eventually all went to sleep, and prepared ourselves for the meeting.

On Thursday we woke up and walked to the Stake Center. Everyone was there getting prepared. I hung out with more people, talked to president, and learned some very good advice and ideas for our missionary work. We took a halftime break and ate tons of Italian food that was brought in. We then practiced teaching and played jeopardy which was pretty fun. We divided by area, but because we are only 2 dudes we were put into the Udon group. WE started off strong, and had the most points until the Lao Elders caught up to us. We were tied, and the final question came up. It was a write in. They asked what our wager was, and we and Lao went all in at 2200 points each. The final question was ” When was Preach My Gospel published?: and instantly the number 2004 came to my head. I told everyone and we wrote it down. They had the big reveal, and we were the only correct team! We won the game,m and won prizes to boot. I was the MVP! After that we piled onto a buggy with tons of missionaries and went to the mall. We grabbed a van and came home Because of how late it was we just biked home and ate dinner.

BOSS2042On Friday we woke up and finished the planning we did not do yesterday. We then went to teach Poy at her house. We had a very good lesson with her, but had to cut it short because the member did not have much time to teach with us and had to go to work. The rest of the day was kinda slow. We went looking for LA people that we had never seen before, but could not find them. We visited a sick member at his house, and then went to the church for book of Mormon class. We did not have many people show up. After that we invited at this huge market that had opened up in the middle of town, got some numbers, got dinner, and went home. It was a slow day.

On Saturday we went to the church early to teach a lady we had contacted at Tesco. We had a very good meeting with her. After it was over sister Pale handed me the phone, and said that brother Kenny, the one who recently went back to America for schooling, wanted to talk to me. I started talking to him and he said ” guess where I am.” I guessed Las Vegas because he was going to visit my companions family. He said no,¬†and then I heard people laughing in the background because I was on speaker phone. That’s when he dropped the bomb. ” I’m at your house!” he said in Thai! It was then I heard my whole family and a lot of friends burst into laughing at my ColdFusion. So I got to talk to Kenny as he was hanging out in my house, eating my food, SLEEPING in my bed! It’s cool I guess. My family can’t come to Thailand, so Thailand went to them! I was super surprised. After that craziness we went out to the LA Ann’s house and taught there son again, before visiting these little kids that come to church on their own. We then went inviting at a market and I bought tons of Legos to give to small children at the church so that they maybe stop trying to kill me on Sundays with their tiny fists. We then went to the church and cleaned it all up. I had to take down a big light fixture because there was a leak behind it. We then played games and a ton of people showed up for it! We then went out to dinner with the members, and visited a sick lady before going home.

BOSS2643On Sunday I figured out my back bike tire was flat. It is the tire I popped last year in Rangsit. The patch lasted all the way until yesterday. So we had to walk to church. Luckily it only took 10 minutes. We had a normal day at church, but it was our lowest attendance ever! It was probably because the entire branch presidency went to Chiang Rai on vacation, and took their families with them. We had few investigators show up too. After church was over we taught people and then went home and I changed my tire out and cleaned the gears. We then changed our clothes and biked all the way to an RC’s house to help cut down the jungle around her house. We were attacked by HUGE red ants the size of small army men the whole time. We had to fight them with our blades and in my case my teeth when one fell on my face! After that we burned the foliage and helped carve new wooden handles for knives and ladles at the church. On the way home we saw a chicken fight in a pen going on, with spectators around and money flying through the air. I was tempted to go and get a video, but decided against it. We stopped in the temple we always pass through and took photos of it, and then went home. We cleaned the house and made dinner. There was a funeral going on in our street so lots of Buddhist chanting and such was happening. We went over there and talked to people to find out what was going on. We then closed out the night.

Today we are preparing for if any of us are going to move to a new area. We do not know what is in store, but we hope it all turns out fine. I love this area, and would not mind staying longer. Peace out y’all.
